January - Best cross-country skiing ever!! We enjoyed our stay - thanks for all the helpful info!

Dec. 29 to 31 - Such a cute Cottage! Love the spacious effect of the high ceilings, the blue floor, the Christmas wreath outside the door and all the colourful touches. Hike on the trails at the Warsaw Caves - beautiful but brisk! Moon reflecting on the snowy landscape. Thanks! Relaxing and cozy. Karen & Max, Toronto

Dec. 26 to 29 - Thank you for the wonderful time. X-C skiing nearby was excellent - the best trails we have ever seen (especially in December). We discovered that the pond is a great place to star gaze. Hope to see you again soon. David & Sharon, Waterloo

Feb. 18 to 20 - Upon our arrival and taking care of the most important part of it (Shadow & Nya's exploring of this new adventure). They gave it a 4 paws up. Sorry 8 paws up!! Then we went skating which I haven't done in, well, let's just say a lot of years. I had a blast and so did the hounds! We all enjoyed our stay & we shall see you in the fall. Weather: Sunny & around -3 to -1 C. - Frank, Donna, Shadow & Nya, Whitby

Dec. 27 to Jan. 2 - Went to the pond every day for pick-up hockey & skating, hiking and bringing in the new year with family & friends. Had a great time. - Inez, Reece, Anthony, Sophie & Moon

Snowshoeing

X-Country Skiing

The Kawartha Nordic Ski Club which offers 40 kms of groomed trails through a games preserve is just 15 minutes drive to the north of us.  If you would like to take your dog with you, x-country ski at the Petroglphys Provincial Park through virgin snow or at Warsaw Caves Conservation Area next to the Indian River.  If you do not have ski equipment, you can rent them from Adventure Outfitters in Lakefield.  You may also ski on site at Lake Edge through our 12.5+ acres on un-groomed trails.

Snowshoeing

At Lake Edge we have complimentary Snowshoes available for your use.  You may use them on site or take them to the many parks and conservation areas to explore the Kawartha countryside.

Skating

In the winter, the Frog Pond is turned into a huge outdoor skating rink.  Bring your own skates, find romance under a star lit night or bring the gang for a game of pick-up hockey or broom ball.

Bird & Wildlife Watching

No matter what the season you’ll be entertained by the winter wildlife:  chickadees, woodpeckers, ducks, bald eagles, grouse, wild turkeys, mink, fox, deer, rabbits, owls and of course the dogs.  Bring your binoculars and camera!  We have reference books for identifying just about everything that might share your vacation with you.

Star Gazing

On a clear night the sky at Lake Edge is a star gazers dream.  Enjoy spotting the constellations, shooting stars and the planets hanging low on the horizon.  We keep our lights to a minimum in the evening not only to conserve energy but to insure that the stars and moon provide a vivid display.

Board Games

The best and most fun way to pass a rainy day or cozy winter day is to play a board game, cards, cribbage or chess.  It’s a cottage tradition!

Reading Library

We have a library of books and magazines with a selection for everyone no matter what your age or interest.  This is the most relaxing way to spend your vacation other than enjoying an afternoon siesta, reading is a must-do at the cottage.
